  • December, 2020. Congratulations on Jing Li winning the "2019 Hong Kong Young Scientist Award" conferred by the Hong Kong Institution of Science. Jing is the only winner in the field of Engineering Science. 

  • November, 2020. Congratulations on Wanghuai winning the "Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Research Award" at CityU.  The establishment of this award aims to recognize exceptional research work achieved by PhD graduates and to encourage the highest levels of research and writingOver the past three years, TWO PhD graduates (Jing Li, Wanghuai Xu) in our group have won this supreme award at CityU.

  • October, 2020. Congratulations on Wanghuai winning the Outstanding Thesis Award at CityU. Over the past three years, three PhD graduates (Jing Li, Jiaqian Li, Wanghuai Xu) in our group have received this competitive award.

  • September 2020. Professor Wang won the prestigious 2020 Xplorer Prize for his work on nature-inspired engineering.

  • Feb. 2020. Our paper on energy harvesting has been published in Nature. It was highlighted as Headline of Physics World, reported in more than 50 news outlets, among which over 35 are from US, Canada and Europe.

  • October 2019. Jinqian Li won the Best Doctoral Thesis Award at the City University of Hong Kong. Congratulations, Jiaqian.

  • October 2019. Jing Li won the Hiwin Doctoral Dissertation Silver Award conferred by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. This prestigious award also carries a cash award of 0.3 Million CNY. Congratulations, Jing.

  • July 2019. Collaborative work with University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research was highlighted in Nature.

  • July 2019. Bio-inspired soft robot paper was among the Top 50 Nature Communications physics articles published in 2018.

  • June 2019. Congratulations on Ms. Minjie Liu winning the Best Poster Award in the 1st International Conference on Nature-inspired Surface Engineering, which was held in US.

  • September 2018. Collabotative work on the development of bio-inspired soft robot was published in Nature Communications.   • April 2018. Jiaqian was awarded the Premier Prize at the first International Society of Bionic Engineering (ISBE) Bionic Innovation Competition for his work entitled 揟opological liquid diode? Congratulations, Jiaqian.

  • Feb. 2018. The invention of the most water repelent surface with the shortest liquid-solid contact timwas included in Guiness World Records.

  • December 2017. Our paper entitled" Bio-inspired reversible underwater adhesive" was published in Nature Communications and selected by The Latest Science as the paper of the month (January 2018). Congratulations, Yanhua, Yang and Liang.

  • December 2017. Our paper entitled" Topological liquid diode" was published in Science Advances and highlighted by Physics Today. Congratulations, Jiaqian.

  • November 2017. Our Nature Physics work published in 2014 was elaborated as a Session in the authoritative textbook entitled" Physics of Wetting" written by Professor Edward Bormashenko. Congratulations, Yahua.

  • April 2017. Our research is highlighted in ISBE Newsletter, 2017, Issue 1.

  • February 2017. The demonstration of pancake bouncing at the large scale by Prof. Hecksher was featured in New York Times. This work is a nice extension of our previous discovery of pancake bouncing reported in 2014, which significantly breaks the classical contact time limit.

  • January 2017. Two PHD graduates, Xuemei Chen and Yahua Liu, were selected to receive the competitive 1000 Young Talents Plan award (青年千人). Congratulations, Xuemei and Yahua.

  • December 2016, Ms. Jing Li was conferred the prestigious Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Gold Award at the 2016 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, US. Congratulations, Jing. Remarkably, two graduate students in our lab have received the highly competitive and highly recognized award.   • October 2016, Ph.D. graduate, Dr. Yahua Liu, was awarded the prestigious "Hiwin Doctoral Dissertation Award". This award is sponsored by Hiwin Technology Limited Co (Taiwan), undertaken by China Mechanical Engineering Commission to award Chinese doctors and their supervisors in universities and institutes majoring in mechanical engineering. Congratulations, Yahua.

  • July 2016. Dr. Wang was selected to receive the OSA Young Scientist Award in the 6th International Multidisciplinary Conference on Optofluidics.

  • June 2016. Collaborative work with ANU was published in Science Advances. This work was also featured in Nature, News & Views in Nature Physics, Chemistry World, Popular Mechanics, Asian Scientist, Nanotechweb, and many other news outlets.

  • Feb. 2016. Jing's paper on Janus droplet was published in Nature Physics. This work was also featured in many news outlets such as Nanowerk, Phys.org, Asian Scientist...Congratulations, Jing!

  • Feb. 2016. Dr. Wang was selected to receive the 2016 Outstanding Youth Award by the International Society of Bionic Engineering.

  • December 2015. Our recent PhD graduate, Dr. Yahua Liu, won the 2015 Hong Kong Young Scientist Award in the engineering category. Congratulations,Yahua!.

  • August 2012, Our work on the study of size effects of evaporation at superhydrophobic surfaces was accepted by Physical Review Letters. Congratulations to Xuemei. This is her second high-impact paper after she joined our group as a Ph.D. student in August 2010.

  • September 1, 2011. Xuemei Chen's paper on the development of bio-inspired novel materials for heat transfer application has been accepted by Advanced Functional Materials (2011 Impact factor: 10.2) and highted as Front Cover. Xuemei joined our lab in August 2010. Congratulations, Xuemei!
